In Memory of Manfred Mödinger

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Manfred Mödinger, Chairman of the Organic Mineral Water Association (Qualitätsgemeinschaft Bio-Mineralwasser), who died on 3 January 2026.

Mr Mödinger co-founded the Association in 2009 together with Dr Franz Ehrnsperger and played a decisive role in shaping the organic mineral water seal. A true pioneer, he was instrumental in developing structures that link the protection of water as a vital natural resource with organic agriculture. His work was guided by a clear vision: to extend the principles of organic integrity, responsibility, and sustainability to water itself.

Through his tireless commitment and advocacy, the 2021 General Assembly of IFOAM – Organics International approved a motion to expand the Common Objectives and Requirements of Organic Standards (COROS) to include criteria related to water.

IFOAM – Organics International extends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We hope they were able to be together during these difficult moments of farewell. Manfred Mödinger’s legacy will continue to inspire efforts to protect water as a shared and precious resource within the organic movement.
